iPhone 14 (2022): Rumors, release date, price, and features
The iPhone 13, Apple’s best iPhone, is already fully established on the market, but we’re already anticipating what Apple might have in store for us next year. Apple is rumored to be working on a major redesign for the next iPhone, as well as some major internal changes, including a potentially enormous new camera. The following is what we believe we know about the future iPhone.
For a few years now, Apple has adhered to its naming scheme, and there’s no hint of a return to the ‘S’ upgrades of the past. We’re expecting a major design shift with the next iPhone, as you’ll see, so the 13S isn’t really necessary. It’s the iPhone 14.
The majority of what we know about the upcoming iPhone comes from a massive September leak from Jon Prosser. According to the report:
According to renders provided by Prosser based on information he has seen, the iPhone’s famed camera hump will be gone in next year’s model. Instead, it will be thicker to conceal the camera hump while also perhaps improving battery life. Prosser, on the other hand, claims to have no knowledge of the phone’s internals and has only seen the device’s design.
According to Prosser, the iPhone will have a flat glass back and a titanium chassis, rather than a camera bump. Also, at least for the Pro versions, the notch appears to be on its way out in favor of a hole-punch front-facing camera.
Apple is working on a “total makeover” of the iPhone for next year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Apple is also rumored to be ditching the notch in favor of a hole-punch camera on its Pro models.
It’s predicted that the iPhone 13 small will be the last little iPhone. Instead, Apple is rumored to be ditching the mini iPhone in favor of a second regular-sized iPhone next year. Beginning in July,
“It’s pretty much agreed that there won’t be a Mini next year,” a source told Nikkei Asia. According to prior rumors, Apple is going to introduce a second ‘Max’ iPhone instead. With the same form shape as the iPhone 12 Pro Max but fewer premium features, the 6.7-inch phone would be a more cost-effective giant iPhone.
“We expect that the new 2H22 iPhone will have four variants, including the high-end 6.7-inch and 6.1-inch models, and the lower-end 6.7-inch and 6.1-inch models,” Ming-Chi Kuo said.
Each year, Apple introduces new A ‘+1’ CPUs to the iPhone, with the A15 Bionic being the latest. Next year, look for an A16 with more performance increases based on the 4nm chip process. Starting in November:
According to Digitimes:
Apple is likely to move its iPhone chips to more advanced manufacturing nodes at a slower pace. Rather than moving to 3nm, Apple is likely to use the TSMC 4nm technology for its next-generation iPhone CPUs.
The iPhone 13 Pro has a 120Hz ProMotion display, and it’s possible that Apple will extend this technology to the rest of the iPhone lineup next year. According to DSCC’s Ross Young, this is not the case, as the normal iPhone retains a 60Hz LTPS display. Apple might, however, improve the screen in other ways, as it did with the Super Retina Display XDR earlier this year.
This year, the iPhone could get a big camera boost in the form of a 48MP camera:
Apple will transition to a new 48-megapixel camera next year, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and Apple will use a new periscope camera design for the first time in the following year’s iPhone.
According to a study report obtained by iMore, the 2022 iPhone — dubbed iPhone 14 — would feature a new 48-megapixel camera. Similar rumors have surfaced before, including from Kuo himself. Apple may be able to make use of pixel binning, which allows for more light to be made available during low-light images while still allowing for high-resolution stills to be captured in well-lit environments, thanks to the switch to such a camera system.
The iPhone 14 will have larger batteries across the board, according to DSCC’s Ross Young, improving capacity and powering new features.
Like its predecessors, the iPhone 14 will include 5G, and it may also include compatibility for new nations, as the iPhone 13 did. There haven’t been any reports of satellite-enabled communication for emergencies with the iPhone 13, so it could be another feature to keep an eye on. Apple’s next iPhone, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, may include Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
With rumors of 2TB capacity and the likelihood of a larger basic storage model, the iPhone could be more expensive than the current model next year. Apple, on the other hand, shocked us by keeping the price the same this year, and in certain cases, even lowering it in comparison to the iPhone 12.
After a one-time delay last year, Apple has resumed its September release pattern. In roughly a year, the iPhone 14 will be released. Next year, we might even have an in-person launch celebration!
