With iOS 15, Apple altered the way notifications work. You can now control when you want to be bombarded by notifications thanks to new features like Focus.

That isn’t all, though. You can now configure and schedule your alerts in iOS 15 so that you receive all of your mail or social media notifications at a specific time of the day.

If you’re often distracted by messages, the Notification Summary is a great way to stay focused on what’s important without missing anything. It’s quite simple to use, and it has the potential to completely transform how you engage with alerts.

The notification summary function allows you to collect all of your non-sensitive notifications in one location. You’ll be able to plan when you want to check them, and you’ll be able to see all of your alerts in one spot, with the most essential ones displayed first.

The following steps will show you how to create a notification summary:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Select Notifications from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select Scheduled Summary from the drop-down menu.
  4. Toggle on the Schedule Summary.
  5. Continue by pressing the Enter key.
  6. Select the apps you want to appear in your summary by tapping on them.
  7. Select Add apps from the menu.
  8. If you want, make a schedule. You can edit it later, so don’t worry.
  9. Turn on Notification Summary by tapping on it.

That concludes our discussion. Notification Summary is now in use. Keep in mind that Notification Summary has no effect on notifications that are time-sensitive. Sensitive notifications, such as phone calls or direct messages, will, for example, be quickly notified to avoid missing essential information.

How to Customize Notification Summary Schedules

You’ll notice that you currently have a handful of schedules for receiving your notification summary, but you can adjust and customize them as needed.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to the Settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to Notifications and press it.
  3. Select the Scheduled Summary option.
  4. To create a new schedule, hit the + icon in the Schedule section.
  5. To delete a schedule, hit the minus icon next to it and then tap Delete.
  6. Finally, by tapping the time on the right side, you can edit an existing schedule.

Throughout the day, you can create up to 12 distinct daily summaries. To see the next notification summary before the scheduled time, toggle Show Next Summary on. You can also add or remove applications from your summary by scrolling to the bottom of the page and touching the toggle next to the app you wish to add or remove.

Tip: In the Apps in Summary area below the app, you can view the average number of alerts you receive in a day. That will assist you in determining whether it should be on a scheduled summary rather than continually distracting you.
