How to Change your Background on Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams comes with a variety of backgrounds to keep your meetings interesting and fresh. You don’t have to suffer needlessly if you’ve outgrown the same, familiar background of Teams.

The software comes with choices to adjust the background, blur it completely, or replace it with a picture you’d like instead, thanks to the developer behind Teams. You may also start with our list of Team’s backdrop posts if you’re seeking some inspiration.

Here’s how to do it.

How to change Teams background during a meeting

There are two options for changing the background of your Teams meeting. You can do it during a Teams meeting or before the commencement of a meeting. Let’s start with what you can do in a live meeting.

Follow the instructions below to change your background during a meeting:

  • To apply background effects, go to the meetings controls, select More actions ***, and then Apply background effects.
  • By selecting Blur, you can blur your background. Alternatively, you can blur your background by selecting one of the photos.
  • Before you finalize anything, click Preview to get a quick glance at how everything looks.
  • Finally, press the Apply button.

The background of your Team’s meeting will be altered as soon as you do that.

How to switch your background before a Teams meeting

The second thing on your to-do list is to change the background of a meeting before it starts. Here’s how to do it:

  • Click the Background filters—just it’s beneath the video thumbnail—when you’re setting up your meeting.
  • Click Blur if you want to soften the background a little.
  • You can, once again, select to upload an additional image. To upload an image from your computer, go to Add new and select an image.

If you do this, your meeting’s background will be transformed for the better. You’ll have to repeat the process if you want to reset your settings or change the backdrop to something else entirely.

Altering the background on Teams

For all Teams meetings, Microsoft Teams is a refuge. Customizing the meeting background is a fun way to add some variety to the proceedings. Hopefully, one of these strategies proved to be suitable for your needs and assisted you in making changes.

Change Background in Microsoft Teams on Mac

  • Open the desktop client on your Mac and make a video call.
  • Select the three-dot menu symbol from the menu bar.
  • Select Show Background Effects from the drop-down menu.
  • A sidebar will display various backgrounds.
  • Click Preview to try one out. If you’re happy with it, click Apply and turn on the video.
  • Alternatively, you can use your own photo to create a unique background.

There are also filters that can be added. However, you might not want the photos you posted to Microsoft Teams Backgrounds to stay there indefinitely. If you wish to get rid of it, go to the following location on your device:

~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Backgrounds/Uploads

There are two variations, as you can see. The one with the “thumb” term in the extension is the one that shows up as a Backgrounds choice. If you just remove that file, it will no longer appear in the meeting app’s settings, but it will remain on your computer. Both the standard and thumbnail files must be deleted.

Change Background in Microsoft Teams on iPhone

This solution is also applicable to iPads and other iOS-based devices. Look for Video Effects in the top left corner of your screen during a Microsoft Teams conference. You can choose from any of the available backdrops. You may also use your phone’s camera to create a customized background.

It’s worth noting that if you set the backdrop image before the meeting, it will appear in all subsequent sessions. You can update it at any moment or remove it entirely if you no longer want it to apply.

Change Background in Microsoft Teams on Android

  • Before joining a meeting on your Android phone, you can set up video and audio using the Microsoft Teams mobile app.
  • Turn on the video. Choose from a variety of background effects.
  • Select a background.
  • To utilize an image from your phone, press +. Join the meeting by selecting Done.
  • Many backdrops seem better when seen in landscape mode rather than portrait mode.

The background will become permanent for all Microsoft Teams meetings unless you disable it, much like it does on iPhone. Remember to only use photographs from your phone that is in one of the supported formats. If at all possible, do so before rather than during a meeting.
